Flavia Mangan Colgan, class of 1995, attended Roeper in Lower and Middle School. She went on to graduate from Harvard with honors and became the youngest-ever Chief of Staff to Pennsylvania’s first female Lieutenant Governor at the age of 23. She later became a political commentator and news correspondent, and active contributor on MSNBC, CBS Early Show, Extra, Travel Channel and FOX (just to name a few). After 15 years in television and media, she left the public eye to become the Director of a non-profit that provides hope, education, and mentorship to underserved youth. This is her true passion, and something she says was fostered at Roeper. "Roeper was a nurturing, uplifting and hopeful sanctuary for me during a time that I needed it the most. It underscored that we are not what has happened to us, but rather who we choose to become. My life’s vocation is to be a safe harbor for underserved youth so that they too can realize all their dreams and be blessed to be a blessing to others." Flavia now resides in California with her husband and two daughters, and continues to work tirelessly to support and uplift the lives of underserved children and young adults. She’s a #RoeperAlum.

Mark “Zibo” Zbikowski, class of 1974, is a former Microsoft Architect and an early computer hacker. He started working at Microsoft in 1981, only a few years after its inception, leading efforts in MS-DOS and Windows. When he left in 2006 to pursue teaching and consulting all over the world, only Bill Gates and one other person had been with the company longer. After Roeper, Mark attended Harvard University, Yale University and University of Washington. “Roeper allowed me to follow what my narrow interests were, but also taught me that there were many other things in life that I could be interested in. I had incredible teachers like Muriel McGaw, Richard Anderson, Barclay Palmer, Dick Morrow, and Jean Timar who had a huge impact on who I am as a person.” Mark is now happily married with a blended family of 8 children, regularly bikes 100 miles per week, and splits his time between Seattle and Phoenix. He’s a #RoeperAlum.

Sam Wolson ’07 is an immersive film director and photographer who covers stories about humanitarian and environmental issues. Sam’s projects have ranged from a three year documentation of one man’s struggle in a gentrifying Bay Area community to exposing the bombing of civilians in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan. His work has been featured in National Geographic, The New York Times, The New Yorker, and Sundance. “Roeper taught me to constantly question my role in the world and the impact I have. As an adult, this constant questioning has taken me down the path of journalism.” His latest project “Reeducated” takes viewers inside a “reeducation” camp in Xinjiang, China, guided by the recollections of three men who were caught in what is likely the largest mass-internment drive of ethnic and religious minorities since the Second World War. “Reeducated” premieres March 16 at SXSW. When Sam isn’t out in the field working, he enjoys watching movies with his wife and two cats in Tunisia where he currently lives. He’s a #RoeperAlum.
